All the details from Kirsty and Cameron's wedding at Stonebridge, Geraldine.

‘I met Cameron when we were both waiting for a taxi after a night out. He got in contact with me the next day and we just began dating; shortly after we became official.

‘Cameron proposed to me while we were on a family holiday up at Ngakuta Bay in the Marlborough Sounds. We were going along the bay’s walking track when we stopped for a rest and to admire the view. When I turned around Cameron had the ring in his hand and popped the question!

‘I found my beautiful wedding dress at the first appointment of trying on dresses. After trying several on, I found the one. I had a good idea of what I liked and didn’t like so that made it super easy.

‘We selected our wedding date when the amazing Sarah Clements, our photographer, was going to be available in the year we wanted to get married. We chose Stonebridge as our venue because when we went to have a look and met with co-owner Justine, it just felt right. It seemed to be the perfect place for exactly what we wanted.

‘Our ceremony was perfect. Before we said our vows we asked Cam’s sister Sarah to come up and say a reading for us regarding missing family members and we also lit a candle after that. It was very special. We both wrote our own vows to each other. It was such a beautiful moment to be so honest to each other in front of our family and friends.

‘We had our photos taken on-site at Stonebridge, and then Sarah took us behind the venue, along this beautiful river for the most stunning shots she captured of us.

‘The reception was just what I had imagined. We both had our best friends do incredible speeches along with my mum and Cameron’s dad. We loved being able to see all our guests enjoying themselves during the reception.

‘We had a buffet-style dinner for each table, as due to Covid we couldn’t have a full proper buffet. We had seasonal veges, salads and a small selection of meats, and for dessert we had cheesecake and chocolate pudding.

‘The most memorable moment for both of us was definitely the few final moments before the ceremony and also the ceremony itself. So special.

Q&A

Did you have a budget?

No, not as such. The vendors and things we really wanted we splashed out on. However, we balanced it out with things like making our own stationery, denim jackets, etc.

Advice for other couples?

I had a full Pinterest board for our wedding day, from the dresses, suits and hair to the menus, flowers and guestbook ideas. Super helpful to see what’s out there to give you a visual and cool ideas for the day.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Cam and I went to Ngakuta Bay for a week. We were treated to a stay at our brother-in-law’s family bach with stunning views. One afternoon we walked back to our beautiful engagement spot and popped a bottle of champagne while listening to our first dance song and enjoying a cheese platter! We also had a beautiful day at Lochmara Resort for our last day away.
